I'm an old leftie hippie type who somehow ended up doing a 20 year stint in the corporate world. I escaped in October 2005 and love finding ways to joyfully dissolve the vicious cycle of rampant consumption and corporate exploitation.
New participants are often amazed at what we're throwing out here in NYC. Freegan.info also expanded way beyond dumpster diving. We regularly share skills on wild plant foraging, bike repair, sewing and other ways to live outside the ecologically destructive and unjust "buy and toss" system. We also organize forums, book groups and movie nights on ecology and social change.

Freegan Film Night: Blind Spot
"Despite the low sound volume and a less-than-perfect movie, it was great to have a politically aware group come together to watch a film and discuss its topic, the issue of peak oil."
"Welcome, Frances! I'll email you outside the group about media policy."
Before the REally REally Free Market
"You know you could do Laughter Yoga inside Judson Church. Just talk with one of the organizers!"
"Hi Lori, I don't know if people are using this message board in an active way. You may want to join the non-Meetup discussion group, freegannyc-discussion(at)riseup.net. You can sign up for is on the website freegan.info. Best, Madeline"
