He looked to be about half my age and I wasn't reassured when he told me that he'd been studying mycology for only two or three years. All the books I'd read about mushroom gathering stated that you needed to study for at least 10-20 years before you could trust your expertise in the woods gathering the fungi. One mistake with a mushroom is likely your last because they don't just make you sick--they KILL!! But I was reassured that Zach knew what he was doing and the tour turned out to be informative and fun. Plus, I got out of the house and some much needed exercise. I spend too much time locked in front of a computer and the time out was good for me. ”
